About Our Roots

In 1992, while an undergraduate student at The University of Delaware, Scott launched his first company, "Student Enterprises".  Student Enterprises successfully provided driveway sealcoating services for many residents of northern Delaware and southeastern Pennsylvania (Chester and Delaware Counties).

Meanwhile, Scott was also working part-time as a Marketing Coach in MBNA America Bank's Marketing Division.  In between all of this and attaining a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Scott also established a group of over 40 men who together founded Delaware's first chapter of Scott's fraternity, Phi Delta Theta.

During Scott's final years in college, he added pressure washing to Student Enterprises' services.  Scott found a great deal of gratification in performing these services for his customers.  By carefully beautifying and protecting his Customers' properties, demand for Scott's services continued to grow.

Upon graduating from the University of Delaware, Scott began working full-time at MBNA America Bank in various manager roles.  He progressed through various business groups learning about lending, marketing, sales, technology and people management.  In 1999, Scott was promoted to Personal Banking Officer.

In 2000, Scott and wife, Janelle decided to leave the fast-paced corporate world behind to focus on raising a family.  In 2001, they relocated to Janelle's hometown in Central PA.

Scott joined Allfirst Bank in Harrisburg as a Trust Officer, administering retirement plans.  In 2003, M&T Bank purchased Allfirst, resulting in layoffs for over 2,000 bank employees in the mid-state.  As a client relationship manager, Scott's position was seemingly safe.  However, in April 2004, Scott and some of his peers were laid-off.

A blessing in disguise, Scott took advantage of this opportunity to spend quality time at home with his now two young daughters.

This sabatical also enabled Scott to formulate
a new 'business-for-self' plan.  In January 2005, Scott launched The Pressure Washing Guy.  Scott aspires to brand The Pressure Washing Guy locally as a household name.

When Central Pennsylvanians think of having exterior washing done meticulously, it is our hope that they will think first of  The Pressure Washing Guy.

Company Timeline

In 2006, The Pressure Washing Guy grew to include two part-time employees.  Additional equipment was purchased to improve our competitiveness.  We dramatically ramped up advertising as well.  This enabled us to serve over 100 new Customers.

In 2007, The Pressure Washing Guy added one full-time employee.  We expanded our marketing through investments in new trailer signage, service directory advertising and providing new services to existing customers.  We served over 125 new Customers.

In 2008, The Pressure Washing Guy added two new part-time employees.  We doubled our washing capacity by investing in new industrial-grade washing equipment.  Although we once again grew our Customer base, our primary focus was to provide existing customers with maintenance cleanings and staining.  We served over 160 new and repeat Customers.

In 2009, The Pressure Washing Guy extended our advertising focus to include Commercial work.  In addition to serving over 215 new and repeat Customers, we provided washing services for a church, a town-home complex and a local restaurant.

In 2010, we intend to keep our slogan, "Carefully Beautifying...One Property At A Time", at the forefront of our business.  We are confident that by doing so, in time our other company goals will be met.

We also intend to continue performing one large Community Service project per year.  Below are our prior year service projects:

Community Service:

In 2006, The Pressure Washing Guy cleaned the exterior of Mount Gretna's historic Post Office building.

In 2007, The Pressure Washing Guy cleaned the entire exterior of Mount Gretna's Playhouse building.

In 2008, The Pressure Washing Guy cleaned the exterior of Mount Gretna's historic "Hall of Philosophy" building.

In 2009, The Pressure Washing Guy returned to clean the exterior of Mount Gretna's historic Post Office building.

In 2010, The Pressure Washing Guy will choose one large cleaning project to help beautify our local community.
